Tesco grant improves outdoor learning for Berwick pupils
Pupils at Holy Trinity Church of England Aided Primary School in Berwick are benefiting from an upgraded outdoor space thanks to a £1,500 grant from Tesco.
The grant will help the school fund new balancing equipment and climbing resources, which will be used by nursery, reception and year one pupils, as well as children attending the school’s breakfast and after-school clubs.
The remaining funding will be used to purchase storage for the new outdoor equipment.
Nick Shaw, headteacher at Holy Trinity CofE Aided Primary School, said: “We want to keep our children active, creative and imaginative, which is why we take so much pride in our outdoor spaces through our firepit and forest activity sessions.
“With this new outdoor play equipment, we’re able to give our children even more opportunities for movement, problem-solving and collaborative play, while helping them develop confidence and important physical skills.
"We’re grateful to Tesco Berwick-upon-Tweed for supporting a fun and engaging learning experience for our children.”
As part of its commitment to supporting schools and community groups, Tesco has recently launched its Fruit & Veg Grants scheme. The scheme awards funds of £500, £1,000, and £1,500 to schools and community organisations to help improve children’s access to free fruit and veg to support healthy, nutritious diets.
The scheme comes as recent research commissioned by Tesco found that just one in ten children in the UK eat their recommended five portions of fruit and veg on a typical school day.
Annie Reid, community champion at Tesco Berwick-upon-Tweed superstore, said: “We’re so pleased that the grant will help enhance the outdoor play area for the kids at Holy Trinity CofE Aided Primary School.
