Northumberland opens its doors to Warm Community Spaces this winter

Northumberland residents are being invited to make use of a network of Warm Community Spaces this winter that are providing welcoming places to stay warm, socialise and access support during the colder months.

Located in libraries, church halls, community centres and local hubs across the county, the spaces offer a safe and friendly environment where people can relax, enjoy a hot drink and connect with others in their local community.

Cllr Eve Chicken, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “Winter can be a difficult and isolating time for some people, which is why these Warm Spaces are so important, but they are about much more than warmth.

“They help bring communities together, reduce loneliness and ensure people know where to turn for advice and assistance.

“I’d also like to thank the volunteers, community organisations and council staff whose continued dedication makes these spaces possible, helping to support those who need it most.”

Residents can find their nearest Warm Community Space by visiting nland.cc/Warmspace or by calling 01670 620015.

Additional support, services and community information can also be found through Northumberland Frontline at northumberlandfrontline.org.uk where many of the county’s Warm Community Spaces are also listed.

For residents with concerns about making ends meet, the council has a dedicated Cost of Living section on its main website provides a lot of up-to-date information, advice and support. This includes assistance through the Department for Work and Pensions funded Crisis and Resilience Fund.

There is also support for residents who rely on heating oil as their primary source of heating.

Residents who do not have access to the internet can call 01670 620015 for help and advice.
