Thrunton Long Crag set for English Bank Fishing heat
A round-up of the latest local fishing action...
The English rivers salmon season closed last weekend. With the recent lift in the local river levels, sport improved with salmon being caught on most parts of the Federation stretches.

Fishing on our local stillwaters has been good this week, with Wednesday the outstanding day. Conditions were really good, with overcast conditions and a warm breeze that produced a super ripple on the water. Almost every angler fishing where I was had their rod bent hard fighting trout.
Successful flies saw a variety of lures with black and green, as well as Cats and orange offerings taking fish. Some anglers were catching on Diawl Bach patterns, but CDC dries also did the business. Small beetle patterns and nymphs also had rods bent.
Looking forward to next year, the qualifying heats for the England Bank Fishing team begin at Thrunton Long Crag this Sunday. The Chatton heat takes place on November 29th. There are four other northern heats, and six heats in southern England. Qualifying anglers will fish a northern semi-final at Chatton next March, with the final being fished at Ellerdine fishery.
High pressure dominated the weather over the weekend, which made fishing the stillwaters more challenging. Hopefully the weather patterns will change and anglers can enjoy improved fishing.
