The midfielder has joined the Colliers on a dual registration with Northern League First Division side Blyth Town, and will be involved in Ellison’s squad for Saturday’s home clash against NPL East newcomers Beverley Town.

Ellison said: “I think it was important for the group to get someone of Dean’s experience. He’s won the league we are in and scores goals from midfield, which is something we are lacking and something which we have spoken about.

“He’s someone who we knew was available, and I was keen to have a chat with him after he previously enjoyed a really good spell at Woodhorn Lane.”

The Ashington boss continued: “I think Dean probably played his best football for Ashington when he was younger. I know he’s a little bit older now so he might be a slightly different player, but he’s a bit of a cult hero at Ashington and I think he’ll compliment the group really well. He’s won trophies and promotions, and hopefully it all works out and he enjoys his time back with us.”
