Memorial event for woman who was a big part of the community in Alnwick
The Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery team is hosting a memorial event to celebrate the life of Jane Mann.
Originally from Bedfordshire, she lived in Alnwick for a number of years and was a major part of its community.
This included a stint as a town councillor and she was a former trustee and volunteer at Bailiffgate.
Jane, who died in September at the age of 74, was a teacher, deputy headteacher and a headteacher during her career in education. This included being the headteacher at King Edward VI School (KEVI) in Morpeth for part of the 1990s and 2000s.

The memorial event will take place at The Costello Centre in Alnwick on Thursday, November 19, from 5pm to 7pm.
A spokesperson for the Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery team said: “Jane enjoyed singing with a local ukulele band and they will play two or three of Jane’s favourite songs.
“It will be an informal event where memories can be shared. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected]
“We expect some people will want to speak about Jane. If you are one of those people, please could you let us know by October 31.”
Jane began her teaching career in Bedfordshire before moving to Plumstead, where she taught in the London Borough of Bexley.
After relocating to County Durham, she was appointed as a deputy headteacher. At a time when women in senior leadership were still rare, she founded a support network for female deputy headteachers.
Her first headship was in Hartlepool before she succeeded Michael Duffy as KEVI’s headteacher in 1995.
