Council tenants in Northumberland urged not to miss out on free improvements
Council tenants are being urged to respond to invitations for free home improvements that could make their homes warmer, more energy efficient and save money on fuel bills.
Northumberland County Council has contacted many local tenants about energy efficiency work that can be carried out in their homes, at no cost to the tenant, thanks to government funding under their Warm Homes Plan.

Energy efficiency upgrades include improvements like fitting insulation, smart heating controls, or other energy saving measures such as solar panels, and ventilation upgrades to avoid damp and mould.
The Social Housing Fund is limited and available on a first come, first served basis, so eligible residents are being encouraged to take up the offer as soon as possible.
Cllr Colin Horncastle, cabinet member for housing said: “We have written to tenants and visited homes to make sure people are aware of this opportunity, but we understand that busy lives can get in the way and letters can sometimes be overlooked or put aside for another day.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for tenants to make their homes more energy efficient at no cost to themselves, and we don't want anyone to miss out. We would encourage anyone who has received an invitation to get in touch while funding is available.”
Not every tenant will be contacted as the council is targeting properties with an energy performance certification (EPC) of D or below, meaning their property would benefit from an energy efficiency upgrade.
