Damp Knight group launches new Berwick Comedy Club initiative
A Berwick-based comedy group known for silly and surreal improvised comedy is looking to re-invigorate the comedy scene in Berwick and surrounding areas.
Damp Knight Comedy first started 11 years ago at the Laughing Bear Comedy Club, then a monthly comedy night ran for a while at The Maltings theatre.

But with the project to build a new Maltings on-going, its members have decided to create the ‘Berwick Comedy Club’.
A few core venues will host regular comedy nights – one of the venues is The Straw Yard, which hosted the first instance of the Comedy Club during the Berwick Food and Beer Festival last month – but they also want Berwick Comedy Club to be available to any venue that would be interested.
There is also a plan to have comedy workshops on offer in the future.
A Damp Knight Comedy spokesman said: “We would love to have loads of shows straight away in all places, but we know from experience that too much, too fast burns out very quickly, so we will be starting slow and building up audiences bit by bit.
“Berwick Comedy Club is not just going to be for us, it is going to be for everyone who wants it. We will simply act as the facilitators.”
The next comedy night will be back at The Straw Yard on October 1 featuring Jack Fox – the South Shields stand-up comedian, rapper and musician – as well as the boys from Damp Knight Comedy plus some extra guests.
