Alnwick Town defeated as stunning solo strike seals three points for Ryton & Crawcrook Albion

Despite a resilient late fightback, Alnwick Town fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Ryton & Crawcrook Albion on Saturday.

An 86th minute goal from Antonio Agostinho had given Alnwick late hope of rescuing a point at St James’ Park, but they couldn’t find a second to draw the game.

Ultimately, it was a sensational solo strike from Louis Calvert that proved to be the difference between the teams.

Having already put his side ahead in the 36th minute, Calvert doubled his tally just five minutes into the second half with a sublime run and finish.

The Ryton and Crawcrook man picked up the ball inside his own half and drove at the Alnwick defence.

A sharp feint saw him beat his final opponent before delightfully chipping the ball over Michael Hogan in the Alnwick goal to give his side a 2-0 lead - and one that would prove crucial come the final whistle.
