Fridge and freezer ban at North Tyneside tip lifted as backlog cleared

North Tyneside Council’s temporary ban on accepting fridges at its tip in North Shields has been lifted.

Last week, North Tyneside Council announced it was no longer accepting fridges or freezers at its Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

The council was among the local authorities to be caught up in a national hold-up on the proper processing of such white goods.

However, the tip at Wallsend Road in North Shields can now accept fridges and freezers again.

Through its social media channels, North Tyneside Council said: “We’re now able to take fridges and freezers again at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, and bulky waste bookings are back open for these items too.

“Thanks a lot to everyone who kept hold of their appliances while things were on pause. Our teams have cleared the backlog, and we’ve not seen any rise in fly‑tipping, which we really appreciate.

“You can book a bulky waste collection or check HWRC opening times as normal.”
