Bid for a new housing development close to Tynemouth Metro Station

A housing developer has submitted a detailed planning application to North Tyneside Council for its proposed development on disused land adjacent to Tynemouth Metro Station.

The proposal by Amethyst Homes includes the creation of 46 one, two, three and four bedroomed properties – with some allocated car parking spaces, cycle storage and landscaping on land to the south of the station – whilst to the north, a new car park would be constructed.

In addition, planning documents for the scheme say the bid features significant improvements to the public spaces around the station buildings to the east of the track and throughout the development, a careful choice of materials would improve the overall environment and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area, and the setting of the listed station building.

Richard Bass, managing director at Amethyst Homes, said: “We’d like to thank those who commented during our public consultation.

“Every point raised was carefully considered, ensuring our final proposals to deliver new homes will respect the unique local heritage of the area and bring lasting value to Tynemouth and North Tyneside.

“Due to its unique location, the proposal offers a fully sustainable development close to all local amenities and facilities, all of which are within easy walking distance.

“As the development is directly adjacent to the Metro, this provides opportunities to connect to the wider locations of North Tyneside, Newcastle, and South Tyneside, which are all within easy reach.”

The application is now subject to formal validation and review by North Tyneside Council, with a statutory consultation period to follow.

If approved, the development will commence in 2027.
