A woman has been banned from getting behind the wheel after admitting drug driving near Berwick.

Nikki White, 40, of Skeldons Brae in Eyemouth, pleaded guilty to the offence at Berwick Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates heard police were on patrol on the A1 north of Berwick at 4.10pm on April 10 when the defendant’s VW Golf came to their attention.

“The vehicle was stopped and officers were concerned the driver might be under the influence,” said James Long, prosecuting.

The defendant failed a roadside test and was taken into custody. She then tested positive for BZE (benzoylecgonine is the cocaine break down product) with a reading of no less than 551ugs. The limit is 50ugs.

Ian O’Rourke, in defence, said: “She had been at work in Berwick and then gone to McDonald’s and was driving home. She had taken cocaine a couple of days earlier at a social event and there were traces of it in her system. There is no evidence of bad driving.”

The defendant was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine and costs totalling £197.
