Let there be light ... and sunshine

So we got rid of the snow, now we just need to get rid of the rain and let all this mud dry up.

Everyone is complaining what a long month it has been, but not here, we've blinked and January has gone. The nights are getting lighter and some of the spring flowers are peeking through, so we're on the right side of things now.

Pip, the three-year-old Jackawawa, needs a new home.

As usual, we have been busy finding homes for our dogs and organising meet and greets and our volunteers have been busy doing walks with prospective owners.

Arthur, the schnauzer cross, spent the day at his potential home as he has two feline siblings to get used to. We preempted the first meeting by exchanging scents on blankets so they got used to the smell of each other before actually meeting.

He met one of the cats the other day and it went well, so let’s hope it keeps going to plan.

Big scared boy Jive, the caucasian x mali, has now had multiple visits to his potential new home. With him being such a nervous boy, it's baby steps all the way.

He's doing well so far and making excellent progress and it's all thanks to the time his key worker, deputy manager Shyan, has been putting in, taking him back and to, and spending time in the home with him so he gains his confidence in his new surroundings.

We are so lucky to have such dedicated staff and she has given up so much of her free time to do this. It will set off the year to an amazing start if our big lad finds his home. He's already made himself very comfy on the sofa.

Chase, our crazy labrador, who is still struggling with ‘four feet on the floor’ has now had a couple of meet-ups with his two new labrador siblings. He is hopefully going out on trial this week to a home where the lady has the space, time and knowledge to teach him those so badly needed manners and can run his rather long legs off.

Little Hollie, the jackawawa, is doing so well on her trial. She's obsessed with her new older Jack Russell brother and copies everything he does and is also becoming a bit of a mummy's girl but also enjoys curling up in bed with dad.

However, the best news of the week is that Kaiya, the kangal cross, has been adopted after completing her trial with her new family. She's gone to a large breed experienced home where she will have acres and acres to explore. Happy new home, Kaiya!

Rescue Dog of the Week

Pip is a three-year-old Jackawawa. He is a nervous boy and takes a while to warm to you but once he does he is a real cuddly little boy. Although loving a warm lap to lie on he is a very energetic dog and will need lots of long walks to tire him out. Jackawawas have long lifespans and this needs to be taken into consideration before applying.

Pip may well benefit from living with a small confident female dog who can help give him the confidence he needs and show him the world isn't such a scary place. We wouldn't place Pip with children due to him being an anxious boy. Once Pip is settled with you, he will provide you with hours of fun as he is such a little character.
