Good news for Arthur, Hollie and Owen

Another week has just flown by in a blink and we cannot believe we are already in July.

Little Arthur, who had his leg amputated, is healing well and is off to the vets, hopefully to have his stitches removed. As Arthur never put that leg down anyway, we are hoping that he won't have really any adjustment to make, apart from it may feel a little strange not having his useless leg hanging down behind him.

Hollie, the chihuahua, who came into us in a terrible state is making slow but steady progress. She's eating really well, having lots of small but regular meals and is scoffing down her food. We have her on the intensive care food from the vets as it is very high in calories. She's had another blood test – her anaemia, though still a big issue has improved since last time.

She's such a happy little girl now and wags her tail as soon as she sees you. She is also now managing to get up and walk to her food bowl whereas before we were having to put it in front of her to get her to eat. She is obviously starting to feel stronger. Her lurcher friend who came in with her is still a little mistrustful of people, understandably, but we are slowly but surely winning her over.

Something that we are absolutely ecstatic about here is that Owen, the chihuahua, is finally being adopted. Owen came from another rescue as he needed some extra time spending with him. He was a very anxious tiny boy which made him very defensive and he displayed some resource guarding.

We took a lot of time gaining Owen's trust and getting him used to other dogs as he didn't seem to have a clue how to act around them. As he got to feel safe with us, his goofy personality came out and we could see what a funny, loving little character he was.

Several people made appointments to meet Owen and then either didn't turn up or cancelled at the last moment until one day his knight in shining armour arrived and Owen just took to him straight away. This lovely guy who so calm and relaxed that Owen just seemed to feel safe with him straight away. He had obviously been waiting for him all along!

Rescue Dog of the Week

Captain is a two-year-old Saluki cross. He just loves to play ball and, once he knows you, is super affectionate.

Captain is wary of people initially but can usually be won over by treats. However, due to this we will not be rehoming him with children.

He seems ok with other dogs so could live with one other dog after several meets. He will need someone who is around a lot of the time.

He does have lots of energy and so will need a home which will be able to provide this.

He hasn't had the best start in life and so we are looking for a good stable forever home for him. Please note our dogs are for pet homes only and must live inside the home as one of the family. Email [email protected] if you can help.
