Morpeth restaurant re-opens and tweaks its name
A restaurant in Morpeth town centre that temporarily closed has now re-opened.
When it was called Niko’s Greek Taberna, it closed in December – saying in a Facebook post that it was “due to private circumstances”.
But the restaurant, which is now called Niko’s Mediterranean Taberna, on Bridge Street opened up again at the end of May.
Its refreshed website says: “Niko’s brings a modern Mediterranean dining experience to the heart of Morpeth.

“Designed for long lunches, flowing cocktails and unforgettable evenings, our menu celebrates fresh ingredients, vibrant flavours and the joy of sharing food with the people around you.”
Its new opening hours are noon to 10pm Tuesday to Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sundays. Closed on Mondays.
The news is another development in the Morpeth restaurant scene in 2026, which includes the opening of Kan pai in the Market Place and Mulan in High Stanners permanently closing its doors.
