NHS dentists see 1,155 more children in Northumberland, Labour says

New analysis from Northumberland Labour reveals 1,155 more children have been seen by an NHS dentist over the last year compared to before the General Election.

Labour is aiming to fix the NHS dental system by rolling out urgent appointments, introducing supervised toothbrushing for children in deprived areas, and modernising the dental contract to prioritise those with greatest need and deliver a fair deal for dentists.

Across the country, this Government has already delivered 1.8 million additional dental treatments compared to before the election and is on track to deliver over 2.5 million.

In Northumberland, 36,944 children were seen by an NHS dentist in the year to June 2026, up from 35,789 in the year to June 2024.

Northumberland Labour’s Leader Scott Dickinson MBE said: “These figures are really encouraging – but we know it’s only the start of a very long road to get NHS dentistry back to where it needs to be.

“Families in Northumberland have every right to expect high quality NHS dentistry locally – that’s why Labour has taken action to improve services and bring in new dentists on modern contracts – but we know more change is needed, and that is exactly what Andy Burnham’s government will deliver.

“This government is determined to get this country - and places like Northumberland - moving forward. That’s how we will succeed together - that’s how we bring back hope.”
