Berwick dental practice launches clinical hypnosis service for anxious patients
A Berwick dental practice has launched a clinical hypnosis service aimed at helping patients feel calmer and more comfortable during treatment.
The service at Brucegate Dental Practice is led by Dr Kim Kerr, who trained with the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis in association with Birmingham City University.
Dental anxiety can put people off attending appointments or receiving necessary care. Clinical hypnosis is used alongside conventional dentistry to guide patients into a relaxed, focused state, offering a drug-free alternative to sedation.
Although primarily for patients with dental anxiety, the technique may also help manage general stress and anxiety, promote calm before operations, support post-operative recovery and assist people who want to stop smoking.

Dr Kerr said: “I’m delighted to be using this technique to support patients. It is rewarding to see people who are normally anxious receive care in a calm, relaxed way.
“We have already had some very positive results and I’m excited to bring this approach into general dentistry.”
