Northumberland milliner's hats to feature as Fashion Britain showcase comes to Newcastle

A fashion show featuring the work of a Northumberland milliner is putting the North East in the national spotlight.

Earlier this year, Margaret Woodliff Wright was commissioned to create several hats and accessories for the Shy Bairns Get Nowt Runway Show at The Boiler Shop in Newcastle.

Lamin Gibba asked Margaret to make the pieces mainly using denim for the launch of his collection by his fashion label, Jerry J Clothing.

Now, Newcastle is to feature in “Fashion Britain” as part of the London Fashion Week 2026 programme.

Fashion Britain is a landmark nationwide initiative curated by the British Fashion Council that aims to decentralise the UK's fashion landscape by extending investment, opportunity and cultural participation beyond London.

The runway show on Saturday, September 26 forms part of the Newcastle Future Heritage student showcase taking place at the Grainger Market from 12.30pm-1pm. Entry is free.

Margaret, known as The Northumberland Milliner, has a studio a few miles north of Alnwick.
