Frustration with the lack of retail choice in Bedlington inspired local organiser Sarah Trood to establish Troody Scrumptious Markets, bringing independent makers and handmade products together for the local community.

The market returns to Bedlington Community Centre on Saturday, 7th November from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with approximately 20 stallholders offering exclusively handmade products.

Visitors can discover original gifts, handmade home accessories and other unique finds while meeting the people behind the products. The market offers an opportunity to shop independently, discover local talent and support small businesses.

Sarah created the market in response to her own concerns, shared by local residents, about the limited retail options in the town. Her aim was to give people more opportunities to discover independent businesses without always having to look elsewhere.

Carefully selected traders and a welcoming atmosphere are central to the market’s approach. One customer describes it as “a friendly place to shop with a great mix of local artists and makers”, and praising Sarah’s care and attention to detail in organising the events.

Sarah Trood, founder of Troody Scrumptious Markets, said: “Being from Bedlington and witnessing first hand the decimation of our retail opportunities over the years, alongside Bedlington’s ever growing population, I know my home town deserves better.

“I want to help make that possible by bringing independent retailers back to Bedlington. We deserve the same quality and experience as other towns with thriving retail scenes, so creating a market filled with local producers was the first step towards making that happen.”

The November event welcomes local residents and visitors from across Northumberland to browse handmade products, meet independent traders and discover something different at their local community market.
