Eye-catching art will be in the spotlight at exhibitions taking place in the coming weeks at 27 Art House in Berwick.

The upcoming programme at the studio and gallery space on Bridge Street includes a joint exhibition featuring local artist Paddy Hartley and guest artist Judith Davies.

Paddy’s Glazed Landscape is an on-going body of sculptural ceramic work inspired by the coastline, estuary and landscapes around Berwick.

Using photography to record recurring patterns and structures, he explores processes such as erosion, accumulation, movement and transformation.

David Roberts is widely recognised as one of the leading practitioners of contemporary Raku ceramics.

These observations are then translated into ceramic forms through an experimental glazing process, with multiple layers of glaze interacting during repeated firings to create richly textured and often unpredictable surfaces.

Judith’s work ranges from small Touchstones, designed to be held and handled, to larger Standing Sea-Stones. Every piece in this exhibition has been hand-made from porcelain and textured using her unique process.

She uses experimental techniques to colour the porcelain, incorporating natural pigments such as indigo and ochres to enhance the textures and reveal the marks left by the making process.

There will be a preview evening at 27 Art House on Friday, October 2, from 6pm to 9pm, with the exhibition then open to the public from October 3 to 23.

Internationally-renowned Raku artist David Roberts will then have a solo exhibition at the venue – with Raku’s distinctive combination of fire, smoke, glaze and chance producing work that is both dramatic and unpredictable.

There will be special ticketed preview evening on October 26 at The Straw Yard and the exhibition at 27 Art House will then run until November 16.
