Wansbeck Warriors teenager Stewart loses out after gallant fight

Wansbeck Warriors boxer Finley Stewart lost his fight for the vacant lightweight title belt against Dylan Clarke at the Fed Brewery in Dunston on Saturday.

The 17-year-old came up against Clarke who has ABA experience and who has won titles but although the contest was a good fight and went the distance of the four by two minute rounds, the Wansbeck teenager lost on points.

However a return match has been scheduled for the next D Day event in 2027.

Meanwhile Jermaine Macall, another 17-year-old with the Warriors, made it back to back wins after another impressive performance as he defeated South Shields boxer Nathan Murphy.

Macall - who triumphed in his first fight with a stoppage in the first round - went for his opponent from the first bell raining in shots which put Murphy on the canvas three times in 40 seconds before the referee stopped the fight.

“That’s two wins in quick succession for Jermaine but well done to both of our boxers,” said Warriors coach Alan Buller.
