After knocking Redcar Town Ladies out of the FA Cup on penalties over the weekend, Morpeth kicked on again with an assured second-half display at Craik Park in midweek to open their new league season with a valuable three points.

Heading into half-time, both sides were locked in a stalemate, but strikes from Kiera Davidson and Emily Jackson-Pigg ultimately secured a 2-1 win for Morpeth.

Elsewhere, Blyth Spartans Women also got off to an eye-catching start in the Premiership, putting seven past Heddon United in their curtain-raiser on Wednesday evening.

Spartans found themselves 1-0 up at the interval in their clash at Croft Park, but really started to pull away after the break, scoring a flurry of goals as they recorded a 7-1 victory - and a real statement of intent - on home soil.
