People were invited to send in suggestions for county landmarks and organisations to feature in the game.

The polls are now reopening specifically to find a county charity to feature on the board.

“It’s our way of thanking Northumbrians – and beyond, including tourists - for getting behind this board so very enthusiastically,” said John Keen-Tomlinson, partnership manager at Winning Moves UK.

“We are delighted to announce that a Northumberland charity will get to star prominently in the game. The winning charity will feature on their very own square, a Community Chest space.”

The public can nominate charities and charities can nominate themselves. The charity has to be officially registered and Northumberland based.

Northumberland was chosen ahead of nine other counties for the new edition based on three key criteria: ‘Sense of Family Values’; ‘Civic Pride’ and ‘Beauty’.

In all, more than 30 local landmarks and organisations – such as Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest and Northumberland National Park are set to feature.

“We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send in suggestions,” added Mr Keen-Tomlinson. “We have been wonderfully overwhelmed with great suggestions. We are now in the process of going through each and every one.”

The Monopoly: Northumberland Edition will be available next spring.

Charity suggestions can be made by email to: [email protected] until August 10.

Winning Moves UK are behind official niche Monopoly editions under license from Hasbro.
