Northumberland Mountain Rescue Team celebrates 60th anniversary at Chillingham Castle
Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team (NNPMRT) celebrated 60 years with a special anniversary dinner at Chillingham Castle.
Formed on May 31, 1966, the NNPMRT grew out of a tragedy earlier in the 1960s when two shepherds lost their lives in a blizzard in the Cheviot Hills.

A group of voluntary wardens from Northumberland National Park came together to form what was then known as the Northumberland National Park Voluntary Wardens Fell Rescue Team.
To celebrate six decades of service, throughout 2026, NNPMRT has held a series of events.
On Saturday, October 17, volunteers, past and present, supporters, family and friends came together for a final night of celebrations.
A spokesperson for NNPMRT said: "Last weekend, we gathered in the stunning surroundings of Chillingham Castle for our 60th anniversary dinner — and what an amazing night it was!
"Our heartfelt thanks go to Sir Humphry Wakefield, for welcoming everyone to the castle, and the Chillingham Castle staff, for the wonderful catering, preparing the Great Hall for dinner and lighting up the castle with flaming torches.
They also gave thanks to: "TRIBE acapella, whose enchanting singing provided a magical welcome to the evening and KDH Photography, for capturing the celebrations and giving us memories to treasure.
"Rev Ed Butlin, for saying Grace at the start of our meal and Alan Hinkes OBE, our guest speaker, who entertained us after dinner with extraordinary tales of adventure in the death zone.
"Above all, thank you to everyone who joined us. This was a celebration of 60 years of people giving their time, skills and support to help others, and of the community that makes it all possible."
