A letter from the highways department at Northumberland County Council states: “The county council intends to extend the existing 40mph speed limit on the A1061 in Blyth from South Newsham roundabout to just west of the Laverock Hall Road roundabout.

“This is to reduce traffic speeds on this section of the A1061 where there are significant numbers of walkers and cyclists crossing the road to access the adjacent shared path.”

Comments on the proposal can be made via email to [email protected] or online at http://trafficconsult.northumberland.gov.uk

The closing date for comments is August 7.
