The insurer and technology provider say the use of AI agents could reduce insurance product development and configuration times by up to 85 per cent.

HDI Seguros and insurance technology platform insureMO have expanded their partnership to introduce artificial intelligence into the development and configuration of insurance products. The move follows the completion of a large-scale migration project that saw HDI transfer its Sompo-acquired life insurance portfolio onto insureMO's platform in less than nine months. According to the companies, the project involved the launch of 19 life and affinity insurance products and the migration of more than 11 million records, including policies, claims and invoices.

The new phase of the partnership will see generative AI agents used throughout the insurance product engineering process, with the companies claiming development and configuration times could be reduced by around 85 per cent. Unlike many AI applications in the insurance sector, which focus on customer service and administrative tasks, the system is being applied directly to product development.

Rafael Rodrigues, general manager, Latin America, at insureMO, said: "Based on requirements described in natural language, AI agents structure the specifications, generate the necessary APIs, create quotation and policy issuance interfaces, perform end-to-end workflow testing, and document the process.

“AI agents do not replace product specialists. They eliminate weeks of routine configuration work, freeing specialists to focus on the areas that require judgment: defining risk and pricing."

The migration project has generated cumulative premiums exceeding £67,500,000, with premium volume expected to reach R$1 billion in 2027, according to the companies.

Vanesa Bustamante, vice president of technology at HDI Group, said: "Migrating the life insurance portfolio and integrating new operations demonstrate that it is possible to modernize a large insurer's architecture while it remains in production, without disrupting day-to-day service to our partners and customers.

“Our partnership with insureMO has given us the scale and flexibility needed to bring new products to market faster. Now, by integrating AI agents into the engineering lifecycle with strict governance and human oversight, we are dramatically reducing the time between product conception and launch while maintaining full security and traceability."

The companies said all AI-driven changes remain subject to human approval, with governance controls designed to ensure operational security and regulatory compliance. insureMO said its platform includes more than 2,500 standardised APIs and over 50 AI tools supporting tasks such as product configuration, testing and auditing.

Rodrigues added: "We are very pleased with the results of this project. The question is no longer whether insurers will use AI, but how many of their pilots have actually reached production. Without an underlying layer of governed APIs, AI in insurance remains just a demonstration."
