Familiar doors open onto unexpected stories as part of Heritage Open Days in Alnwick
Buildings, workplaces and community spaces across Alnwick are opening their doors for the town’s main Heritage Open Day
The events on Saturday, September 19 give people the chance to step inside, explore and discover a side of the town they may never have seen before – and everything is free.

Peter Reed, chair of Alnwick Civic Society, said: “We think we know the town we live in, but there are always places we’ve never explored and stories we’ve never heard.
“You don’t have to be an expert on history, and you certainly don’t have to see everything. Look at the programme, choose two or three places that make you think ‘I’ve always wondered what’s in there’ and go and explore.”
Perhaps there’s a building you’ve passed for years and always wanted to look inside? Perhaps you’d like to see a familiar Alnwick landmark from a completely different perspective? Or perhaps you simply want to set off and see what you discover?
This year’s national Heritage Open Days theme, “Everyday Histories”, celebrates the workplaces, skills and everyday lives that have shaped our communities.
Some venues can simply be visited on the day, while some tours and activities require advance booking, so visitors are encouraged to check the programme and plan ahead.
Full details, opening times and booking information are available from the Alnwick Heritage Open Days programme.
