Music, an eye-catching display and community spirit are being promised when the Berwick Town Hall Christmas lights switch-on event takes place on Friday, November 29.

In addition, people are being encouraged to support local businesses in Berwick as many of them will be open for late-night shopping until 7pm.

The Town Hall Christmas lights this year have been generously sponsored by GoFibre, a Scottish independent broadband company that provides lightning-fast full fibre broadband to customers across Scotland and the north of England.

The lights switch-on event will start at about 3.45pm with the stirring sound of bagpipes (other timings are also approximate and the activities are weather-dependent).

At about 4pm, there will be a special appearance from The Maltings’ pantomime characters, complete with enchanting salmon lanterns, and following this will be the Berwick Community Choir singing a selection of Christmas songs and inviting everyone to sing-along.

The rest of the approximate schedule is as follows – 4.20pm the Mayor will deliver a warm festive welcome, 4.35pm The Blessing of the Lights, 4.40pm lights switch-on, 4.45pm more songs from the choir, 5pm the event will conclude with the ringing of the town bells.

Gregor Watson, head of customer service at GoFibre, said: “We are proud to be helping to light up the Berwick Town Hall this Christmas by funding the Christmas lights.

“We know the town centre will be enjoyed by many at this time of year, so we’re pleased to be able to add a little extra to the festivities.”
