Between September 11-20, places across the country are throwing open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all free.
Many online events are also being held this year due to coronavirus.

1. Bailiffgate Museum, Alnwick
Explore 10,000 years of history; visit a stunning new textile art exhibition by Helen Poremba; see the artist at work; and play the Mouse Hunt.

2. Behind the Scenes at the Queens Hall & Library Hexham (online)
Hexham's historic Queens Hall has been through many changes since first opening as a Corn Exchange in the 1860s.
Take our virtual tour to discover some of the unique architectural features of this wonderful Victorian building not usually on view.

3. The Heritage Centre, Bellingham

4. Berwick Castle (online)
Berwick Castle was one of the most important fortresses during the Anglo-Scottish Wars, probably built by the Scottish King David about 1124.
