Berwick families invited to enjoy creative half-term activities at The Maltings

Families can enjoy a packed programme of creative, cultural and screen-free activities in Berwick this October half-term, with The Maltings bringing together cinema, art and old-fashioned play for all ages.

At the Maltings Cinema, families can join everyone’s favourite sheep for Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, screening from October 23 – 31.

There will also be a sensory friendly screening on Friday, October 30 at 2pm, offering a more relaxed cinema experience with low lighting, lower sound levels, no trailers and an environment where audiences are welcome to move around and make noise.

For families looking to get creative, The Maltings is also partnering with Northumberland Libraries for The Big Draw Festival 2026, with a special workshop at Berwick Library on Friday, October 30, from 2pm.

Inspired by Aaron Becker’s beautifully illustrated book Journey, the workshop invites young artists aged 6–11 to step into a world of imagination, exploring magical landscapes, storytelling and adventure while creating their own colourful artworks and imaginary worlds.

Tickets are required for children, with accompanying adults attending for free.

And for something a little different, Berwick families are invited to Play It Old School at The Maltings’ Hide Hill creative space this half-term.

This free drop-in session invites families to switch off from screens and rediscover the simple pleasure of playing together, with a collection of old-school analogue games and toys available to play with.

Families are also encouraged to bring along their own favourite games or toys from home to share.
