Alnwick Castle to stay open an extra week for the school half-term holidays

The visitor attraction was scheduled to close after this weekend but will now remain open until Sunday, November 1.

Visitors can explore the extensive grounds and take a stroll around the newly opened Capability Walk.

Some activities have also been reinstated, such as guided tours of the State Rooms and broomstick training.

New information boards also detail the castle’s history and the filming that has taken place within its grounds.

Additionally, both The Castle Museum and the Constable’s Tower Museum and the Artisans Courtyard and gift shop are open to visitors.

Andrew Robson of Northumberland Estates said: “We are delighted to be able to extend the opening of the castle for an additional week until the end of half term, which we hope will give families a fun filled day out in.

"Unfortunately many of our usual activities have been scaled back this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, but we hope visitors will enjoy exploring the history of the castle, experience some renowned broomstick training and enjoy some delicious refreshments from our team in the Artisan’s Courtyard.

“This year has presented us all with so many challenges, however it has been wonderful to welcome visitors back to the castle over the past few months and once again see so much life within the grounds.

“We are already working on an action-packed 2021 season and looking forward to seeing visitors again in March.”

Whilst not all areas of the castle have been able to re-open this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, the price of admission has been adjusted to into account the changes.

Grounds entry is now priced £8 per adult, with children aged 16 years and under visiting for free.

In addition, a donation from each ticket sold will be shared between four local charities - HospiceCare North Northumberland, the Fusiliers’ Museum of Northumberland, the Bailiffgate Museum and The Alnwick Playhouse.

To prevent queues, overcrowding and to enable social distancing, a system of timed entry has been introduced. Tickets must be booked online and in advance at www.alnwickcastle.com
