26. Cragside, near Rothbury
Cragside, near Rothbury, was the first house in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power. It was the Victorian country home of inventor and industrialist William Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong, founder of the Armstrong Whitworth armaments firm. It is now owned by the National Trust.
