As one of the most famous musicals of all time celebrates the 50th anniversary of its hitting the big screen, we’ve teamed up with Newcastle’s Theatre Royal to give away a pair of tickets to see it on Wednesday, September 2.
A poster signed by the show’s cast is also up for grabs.
Based on the story of the Trapp Family Singers and Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, the 1959 musical, turned into a film six years later, tells the true story of the world-famous family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness to their escape to freedom from their native Austria. Playing Maria von Trapp in this new production is Danielle Hope.
The 23-year-old captured the hearts of the country when she won BBC1’s Over the Rainbow talent show and made her professional debut as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium. Danielle has since played Eponine in Les Misérables in London’s West End and the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The Sound of Music is on at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday, September 1, until September 12. Tickets cost from £14.50. For details, call, 08448 11 21 21 or book online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk.
To enter our competition, pick up a copy of this week’s Northumberland Gazette and answer this question: Who is playing Maria in this production? Cut out the form on the right and send it to the address provided to arrive by Tuesday, September 1. Winners will be contacted the day after.
