A new online booking system, which has been launched at Alnwick Playhouse, has been hailed as a ‘benchmark achievement’ for the venue.
Customers can now snap up tickets directly from the centre’s website, meaning no more waiting on the phone or queuing at the box office.
The new online system, Spektrix, will enable Playhouse users to purchase tickets and choose their seats 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Jo Potts, theatre manager, is delighted that the venue has introduced online booking, saying it is ‘essential’ to the Playhouse’s success.
She said: “This is a benchmark achievement for the Playhouse and one that myself, the staff and the board have been working very hard to complete.
“In the current financial climate the Playhouse must compete in a competitive market and online booking finally brings us into the competing arena with other arts venues in the area who have had online ticket sales for years.
“We have chosen the new system carefully through consultation and hands-on training with other local arts venues such as The Maltings, Berwick ,and Northern Stage in Newcastle who both changed over to Spektrix recently.
“The changeover has gone as smoothly as we hoped for with reports of 40 per cent online bookings already.
“It is the final step at linking the brochure and the website to embrace the newest technology available to reach new audiences and make it easier for people to book tickets at their convenience, not at our box office opening hours’ convenience.”
