Canine capers and animal antics will be taking to the stage when a family show lands in Alnwick this weekend.
Hairy Maclary and Friends, is an official stage adaptation of the much-loved Hairy Maclary children’s books, by celebrated writer Lynley Dodd.
The lovable pooch will be on stage at Alnwick Playhouse on Saturday for two performances.
Children and adults will instantly recognize the opening lines of bestselling book, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy and the show is packed with favourites from the series.
Youngsters will be able to see their favourite characters such as Hercules Morse, asbig as a horse; Bottomley Potts, covered in spots; Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum and Scarface Claw, the toughest tomcat in town.
The hugely popular show is packed with live music, singing, colourful costumes and five Hairy Maclary stories.
Since its premiere in 2010, the Hairy Maclary and Friends stage show has entertained thousands of children in the UK and Australia.
Following three weeks of sold-out performances at the Fringe in 2010 and an extensive UK tour in 2011, Hairy Maclary and Friends was invited to play the 2011/2012 Christmas season at Sydney Opera House and the run was extended due to popular demand.
The production is presented by Scottish company, Nonsense Room Productions.
Bruce Strachan, artistic director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be touring Hairy Maclary again this year. We had such a huge success in Australia – and are excited about taking the little dog with the big personality to an even wider audience in 2016.”
There are two performances at Alnwick Playhouse, at 1.30pm and 3.30pm, with tickets still remaining for both.
