The Puffin Theatre Club, for youngsters aged five to 12, will run weekly from the Dovecote Centre, the new premises of Northumberland Theatre Company (NTC).

Its founders Rosie Bush and Sarah Price live locally and have experience of teaching drama.

Sarah said: “I previously ran a children’s drama group in Hertfordshire before moving and starting another in Warkworth, but we both feel that Amble is the right place for the Puffin Theatre Club to run in 2018.”

The club will start on February 24 and places are filling up fast.

Rosie added: “We’ve been planning the club for a while, but were struggling to find the right premises. When Northumberland Theatre Company announced its move to the Dovecote Centre everything began to fall into place.”

Rosie and Sarah work at the Duchess’s Community High School as English and drama teachers, but are looking forward to working with primary-aged children.

“We both have young children ourselves so we know what activities work and what will benefit them in terms of building confidence and channelling their energy productively,” said Sarah.

The club will give the youngsters a chance to learn about improvisation, practise their performance skills and work towards putting on a group production later in the year.

Gill Hambleton, artistic director for NTC, said: “We are very excited about collaborating with the Puffin Theatre Club. We are passionate about working with community groups and sharing our facilities with budding young dramatists.”
