As many families prepare to return to their normal 9-to-5 ritual, six amateur dramatics groups are hosting auditions for their next batch of productions intended to liven up the working week.
Alnwick Theatre Club, Alnwick Stage Musical Society, Alnwick Youth Theatre, the town’s Duchess’s Community High School’s drama department, Coquetdale Amateur Dramatics Society and Warkworth Drama Group are all holding auditions for upcoming productions.
First up will be the Warkworth group.
It is holding auditions for its 2015 pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and a read-through will take place tonight at Warkworth Memorial Hall.
Auditions follow on Thursday, September 3.
Call 07853 068195 for further information.
On the same evening, thespians further west in Coquetdale are being invited to come to the read-through for the Coquetdale Amateur Dramatics Society’s upcoming pantomime at The Jubilee Hall, Rothbury at 7.30pm. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Next weekend, the senior group at Alnwick Youth Theatre is holding auditions for its next musical.
The Addams Family: The Musical, an original story, will be performed by the group on Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5.
An enrolment day will be held on Saturday, September 5, from 1pm to 2pm. Auditions will take place the day after from 9.30am to 11.30am, then from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
The enrolment day and auditions both take place at Alnwick Playhouse. Visit www.alnwickplayhouse.co.uk/taking-part/senior-youth-theatre for more information.
Celebrating its 40th pantomime is the Alnwick Theatre Club, and newbie director Laura Coleman will be at the helm for the production.
To mark its anniversary, the group will be putting on an adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland titled Alice’s Adventures.
A read-through will be held on Monday, September 7, at St Paul’s RC First and Middle School. Contact email@example.com for further information.
Another group looking for a range of men and women to audition is Alnwick Stage Musical Society. It is getting ready to stage a production of Sister Act: The Musical.
The group is looking for men and women to take on a variety of lead and supporting roles. There are six male and seven female roles up for grabs.
The society says it has already received a lot of inquiries about the range of parts on offer and is asking those interested to sign up for a five-minute audition slot.
Its first meeting is on Tuesday, August 8, at 7pm at Swansfield Park First School in Alnwick, with auditions taking place on Thursday, August 10, for men from 6.30pm and for women from 7.30pm. To sign up for an audition slot, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Students at the Duchess’s Community High School will be presenting a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in early November, but not before holding auditions for a recently-announced musical. The Howling Lane school will be putting on Rock of Ages, the 2005 Chris D’Arienzo jukebox musical in March next year. Auditions for students at the school will take place in the third week of September.
The drama department is one of the first groups to be given an amateur licence for the show.
