Quirky act are set for Rothbury Roots gig

A musical treat is in store when The Coal Porters perform at the next instalment of Rothbury Roots.

The group has claimed the title of the world’s first ‘alt-bluegrass’ act.

They have demonstrated the power of fiddle, mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar and doghouse bass matched with four-part harmonies and memorable melodies.

They have taken this sound around the world, featuring on NPR’s Morning Edition in the USA and recording a live session for Bob Harris on Radio 2.

Support will be from local bluegrass trio Antic Hay.

The gig is at the Queen’s Head Hotel, Rothbury, on Thursday, October 30. Doors open at 7.30pm, music starts at 8pm. Entry is £10. Call 01669 620470.
