High energy folk-dance group Gergent Ensemble, from Sicily, brought the Italian sunshine with them for much of the Alnwick International Music Festival week.
The glorious weather was interspersed by a few showers but most performances went ahead as scheduled.
Among them was Gergent, who are reviving the heritage of Sicily, with particular focus on the Agrigento region. The songs and music reflect the working days of farmers, carters and fishermen.
The girls’ costume are 19th century-style, with brocade skirt, velvet bodice, white skirt, apron and handmade wool dark mantle. For the men, the costume is based on the way carters dressed at the end of the 19th century – pants, velvet brown gilet, red wool band and work handkerchief.
