Steve Tilston, Rothbury Roots, Thursday, March 24, at The Queen’s Head Hotel, Rothbury, 8pm. Tickets £8 can be booked in advance by calling 01669 620470.

THE 2011 Rothbury Roots season continues next Thursday with the much-anticipated return of the supremely gifted singer-songwriter Steve Tilston.

Tilston is a celebrated song-smith, widely recognised within the world of folk and contemporary music – the words, arrangements and subtle but quite superb guitar-playing could be no one else.

Born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands, he made his recording debut in the early 70s with the classic An Acoustic Confusion and has been turning out quality albums ever since, while many of his songs are considered modern folk song classics and covered by the likes of Fairport Convention, Dolores Keane and John Wright.

He has won accolades in Europe, Australia and the USA and his career was marked last year by the release of Reaching Back – a five-CD boxed-set retrospective.
