Advent carols will be performed by the Rock Festival Choir in Alnwick to mark the start of December.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the run up to Christmas with an afternoon of music from Alnwick’s chamber choir. on Sunday, Deember 2.
The Advent concert programme, at St Paul’s Church, at 3pm, includes well-known favourite carols as well as some beautiful new pieces, such as ‘Alleluia, into the light – a Miner’s Carol’, written by composer and choir member Cheryl Camm.
It will also include the winner of last year’s BBC Radio 3 Carol of the Year competition, Sir Christemas, a lovely setting of a 15C text to music composed by Bernard Trafford, a musician, writer and educationalist who is based in the North East.
The choir has a busy year ahead. After their successful performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2018, Rock Festival Choir has been invited to perform two concerts at city centre venues on August 16 and 17 next year.
They will also perform a spring concert in St Paul’s Church at 3pm on Sunday, March 17.
The Rock Festival Choir, Alnwick’s Chamber Choir, is directed by Peter Brown.
The organists will be Alan Gidney and Peter Hignett.
Tickets for the Advent Concert, which starts at 3pm at St Paul’s will be available on the door (£9/£8).
