A North East contortionist and magician has brought variety back to the region with a packed-out show on Friday night.
More than 100 people turned out for Northumberland Village Varieties in Warkworth, which was put on by Newcastle-based Chris Cross.
A great night was had by all with guests from from Tyneway Trading, Phaze Clothing, The Alnwick Garden, Radio Northumberland and others all commenting on how much fun they had via Twitter.
Chris said: “Three-time gold Paralympic GB medalist, Stephen Miller, launched the night with a talk on the microphone saying he was very pleased to be there and part of the show.
“There was a real sense of music hall in the room and it really was a variety show with juggling, unicycling, escapology, magic, contortion, music, singing, comedy and more.
“Thanks to all who came and got into the swing of things – keeping entertainment live.”
Alongside Chris’ contortion and magic, perfomers on the night were Simon Donald, the stand-up comedian and co-Founder of VIZ, Nat Lunatrick, UK Unicycle Gladiator Champion and juggler and 12-year-old magician Joe Tuppling.
There was also traditional northern folk with Cushy Butterfield etc, from Bill Read, Fool’s Gold Acoustic, a duo telling stories with their music and Carl Cape played with the backing of a full LUSH Acoustic band featuring violin, double bass, guitars and harmonica.
Chris also thanked sponsors Wylam Brewery and Holler Watches, Paula Smart Photography for the pictures and Emma Bunting for the room decor.
The success of the full-house event was such that plans are afoot for further similar events around the county – really bringing variety performances back to Northumberland.
Chris said: “Plans to host a few more variety shows around Northumberland are already in full swing, which promises some great nights ahead.
“Dates and venues to be announced soon – watch this space!”
