John Lill, Alnwick Music Society concert, Alnwick Castle Guest Hall, Tuesday, April 28.
Alnwick Music Society’s last concert of the season was with pianist John Lill, who has given much pleasure in the past to Alnwick and district’s music lovers.
I remember going to hear him at a school in Berkshire in the early 1980s and he had been one of our most distinguished pianists then for 15 years.
The programme John Lill devised for us consisted of four works, each of them in their genre one of the greatest of their composer’s works: a late Mozart piano sonata, Schumann’s masterly Fantasia in C, Chopin’s Ballade no.4, and Beethoven’s wonderful Waldstein Sonata.
The Society’s Steinway D grand piano had recently been refurbished, and the packed audience heard the results.
Thankfully the recent extraneous ‘noises off’ in the Guest Hall were not in evidence and Mr Lill even congratulated the audience on their quietness!
The 201516 season begins on September 15, with another round of concerts, a feast of great music. Why not join the music society and enjoy the great art and artists brought to our region? Brochure and details available midsummer.
