A festival bringing the sound of music to a Northumbrian coastal landmark is to be held Friday evening.

The B Festival takes place at Bamburgh Castle on July 31, to raise money for HospiceCare North Northumberlad.

The diverse event will feature a range of music from classical and opera to folk, jazz and pop.

Preparations have been on going for more than a month and organisers are expecting a great evening.

The event is sponsored by Neil and Jackie Forysth, owners of Seahouses-based holiday cottage company Stay Northumbria, with support from St Cuthbert’s Hospice at Durham.

Neil said: “A little under two years ago I lost my sister to pancreatic cancer, one of the most invasive and quick developing of cancers.

“For the last two weeks of her life, she received the kindest of care at St Cuthbert’s Hospice, where there was round-the-clock care to ensure her pain level was always controlled.

“I just think she would appreciate Jackie and I, as Stay Northumbria, sponsoring the B Festival for such a worthwhile cause.”

The event is being held by kind permission of Francis Watson-Armstrong and the Armstrong family, who have adopted HospiceCare as their charity of the year.

Chris Calvert, director of the Castle, said: “We’re really excited about working with HospiceCare on this project.

Julie Frost, marketing co-ordinator for HospiceCare, said: “This event is really exciting for us and incredibly special because Bamburgh Castle is such an iconic building.

“Guests will be able to enjoy the music while watching the sun set over the sea, knowing that they are not only part of an exclusive event, but also helping to raise much-needed funds for our local hospice.

The line-up for the event includes the Berwick Concert Band, Candi’s Dog, Renata and Trev, the Attic Band, Lionheart Harmony, the Grey Catz, Rhionne, the James Mathewson Musical Theatre Ensemble and State 4.

Tickets are £15 each, and under-16s go free.

Concert-goers are invited to take along picnics, although a selection of food and drink will be available on the night from A Taste of Northumberland and Alnwick’s VIP Brewery.
