A special piano recital is being performed by a Greek Orthodox priest to help raise funds for a Northumberland village church.
Father Eleftherious Koumasidis will appear at Alnmouth’s St John the Baptist Church on Sunday at 7pm.
From the Island of Aegina, he will play lyric pieces by Grieg, the Norwegian composer.
There will be commentary by Dr Martin Shingler.
Father Koumasidis’s concert of springtime music comes on the back of a successful recital he gave at the church last year.
Admission is through donation, which will be in aid of church funds, to help with important maintenance.
At present, work is being done to renew the electrical wiring within the church, some of which is more than 80 years old.
Money is also required over the next four years to repoint the stonework.
The church, built in the 1870s, is open every day so that residents and visitors to the village can enjoy the venue’s peace and tranquillity.
Church warden Isabel Chalmers said: “Father Eleftherious Koumasidis is making a much-requested return visit for a piano recital after he gave a very successful piano recital here last October. Last time it was Debussy, this time it will be Grieg lyric pieces.
“The audience will not only have a most enjoyable musical concert, but through their donations, will also help to keep the church in good condition so that locals and visitors can enjoy it for many years to come.
“To help fund the work such as the electrical wiring and the stonework, grants and donations are obtained from local and national organisations. In addition, the church holds special events to raise funds, such as this concert.”
