Werca’s Folk, Friday, June 17, Memorial Hall, Warkworth, 7.30pm. Tickets £4, £3 concessions.
THE unique sound of Werca’s Folk will ring around Warkworth’s Memorial Hall on Friday in aid of research into a killer disease.
Under the direction of founder and musical director Sandra Kerr, the all-women four-part harmony choir will dip deep into its repertoire of songs ranging from traditional Northumbrian folk compositions to modern classics penned by the likes of Randy Newman.
The event is being staged to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The choir, which completed a successful week-long tour of Slovenia last year and was voted Choir of the Year in the 2011 Let’s Get Lyrical fund-raiser for St Oswald’s Hospice, Gosforth, was formed in 1995.
Professional musician Sandra Kerr, who was the voice of rag doll Madeleine Remnant in the successful BBC children’s TV series Bagpuss and who co-wrote the show’s music, has moulded a group of singing enthusiasts from throughout Northumberland into a high quality choir that has won local, regional and national acclaim.
Tickets for Friday’s performance, which begins at 7.30pm, are £4 (£3 concessions) and are available on the door on the night.
