Aurora lights up concert scene

Aurora Orchestra, Alnwick Playhouse, Saturday, April 21, 7.30pm. Tickets £5.

NORTH Northumberland music fans will have the opportunity to hear a concert recorded from London’s Camden Roundhouse earlier this year by this dynamic chamber orchestra.

Aurora’s debut appearance at the Roundhouse in February was streamed live on the Guardian website before it was screened in North East cinema.

Now its encore performance will play at the Playhouse.

Part of Aurora’s cross-arts New Moves series and the Roundhouse’s 2012 Reverb Festival, Love Song for the City features iconic music by Strauss (Metamorphosen) and Bernstein (West Side Story), alongside one of the great cross-arts collaborations of the 21st century to date: Michael Gordon’s Gotham, with film by Bill Morrison.

Aurora Orchestra aims to inspire, challenge and astonish new audiences with great music, brilliantly performed.

It seeks to be the UK’s most versatile orchestra, combining world-class performance with eclectic and innovative programming.

It has a commitment to adventurous collaboration across perceived frontiers of musical genre and artistic form, and a refusal to be bound by convention.
