Latest instalment of Vera: The North East locations you can spot as episode two of the ITV drama is screened

Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope has been played by Brenda Blethyn over 10 series so far.

Harbours, a hospital and a hotel – these are just a few of the places viewers will be able to spot as the next episode is screened to millions of viewers.

This weekend’s show will be the second of four two-hour episodes to go out in the 10th series of the ITV detective crime drama.

The programme is set in the North East and follows Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope – played by Brenda Blethyn – and her team of officers as they solve murder cases for Northumberland and City Police.

Last Sunday’s instalment saw locations including the Queen Alexandra Bridge in Sunderland, a Newcastle garage and the city’s Freeman Hospital, the Tan Hill Inn, Tanfield School, Mister Ridley’s Ice Cream and Coffee in Blyth and Gateshead Snooker Centre.

Brenda Blethyn, who plays Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope, and Jon Morrison who plays Detective Constable Kenny Lockhart in the series.

This Sunday’s story, which will go out at 8.10pm, is called Parent Not Expected and is written by Colette Kane and directed by Rob Evans.

The body of 19-year-old apprentice electrician Dennis Bayliss is discovered on the shore of a North Northumberland rural estate.

Det Ch Insp Stanhope soon comes across the Walken family, who run a booming salmon farm off the coast of their land.

Dennis is the estranged son of Steph and Rob Bayliss, who are left crippled by his death, having lost him once already when he abandoned them find his biological father - Thomas Walken.

Vera discovers tensions and fallouts have been a feature of his life since a DNA home-test kit – from ex-girlfriend, Phoebe - revealed the secret about his paternity.

Dennis had also turned to dealing prescription drugs to bring in extra cash as is family life got tough.

Vera has to look closer at the strained relationships of the two families in order to find the truth about his death.

Locations include Burnmouth Harbour and Eyemouth Harbour, which are north of Berwick; Cockburnspath, which is a little further north and off the A1; Whitley Bay, various places across North Shields; Longhoughton Beach on the coast of Northumberland; Orchard House near Alnwick, Newcastle University, The University Hospital Hartlepool, a Holiday Inn in Newcastle and a Seaton Burn chip shop.

A host of others are set to appear in the two remaining shows.
