There will be a charity pledge auction with numerous lots up for grabs, including Sunday lunches, afternoon teas, MOTs and, of course, bales of the finest hay, which will all be up for the top bidders.

There is also the opportunity to bag some of the generous prize money if you enter your own hay into the competition and it turns out to have that all-important star quality.

This annual charitable fund-raising event, together with its sister event the Simonside Country Fair, will, as usual, be donating all profits to local charities and good causes. In 2017, these donations amounted to more than £6,000, a very worthwhile sum to have been raised by voluntary effort.

The action takes place at The Gate country pub at Forestburngate, near Rothbury, from noon onwards.

The winning hay will be auctioned at approximately 2pm, followed by the auction of well over 100 lots, comprising gifts and charitable pledges.

Entries of hay must be on site by noon, when judging commences, and will be split into four classes for Meadow, Seed, Hayledge and Roundbale.

There are one to 25 points per class, and entries are judged on the four key qualities of texture, colour, smell and presentation

Contact William Milburn on 01669 620293 or Hedley Heron on 07974 125321 if you would like more details of how to enter the hay competition, or would like to offer further pledges.
