A former North-East teacher has become a best-selling author since the publication of a book earlier this month.
Karen Charlton’s book, called The Heiress of Linn Hagh, is set in rural Northumberland and features a real-life Bow Street detective, Stephen Lavender.
It is the story of a beautiful young heiress who mysteriously disappears from a locked bedchamber in a fictional pele tower near Bellingham.
Karen Charlton, an ex-teacher from Grangefield School in Stockton, Cleveland, said: “Publication day was probably one of the most amazing days in my life.”
The e-book of the novel has stormed up Amazon’s sales rankings and is now sitting just outside the top 50 of its bestselling fiction chart.
