Visitors to the Alnmouth Arts Festival this month will be given the chance to check out the skills of a different kind of artist – those of the brewer.

The Red Lion in Alnmouth has again teamed up with the Allendale Brewery to produce another batch of Alnmouth Arts Ale.

The ale was first introduced in 2012 and has proved to be extremely popular.

In keeping with the tradition introduced at that time, the first pint has been pulled by the winner of the Festival’s poster competition, who this year is Katherine Renton, who lives in nearby Hipsburn.

Pictured are Katherine, who grew up in Amble the daughter of artist parents, with Chris Ewing and Jane McHugh of the Red Lion.

Katherine said: “I never thought that when I won the competition to be the poster artist it would involve pulling pints.

“It’s not something I’ve ever done before, but it was great fun.”

But most importantly, what is the beer like?

Chris, the Red Lion’s manager, said: “The brewery has produced a golden ale, with an outstanding trio of bold American hops for a full fruity aroma and flavour with a refreshing citrus finish.”

Customers will be able to sample the Alnmouth Arts Ale for themselves starting on the Friday evening before the Festival officially opens for two days on Saturday, June 21.
